GARY — A routine traffic stop for a seat belt violation led to the discovery of 6 pounds of marijuana hidden in the vehicle Wednesday.
Indiana State Trooper Josh Roa stopped the 1997 Buick, driven by Jay Francis Jr., 23, of Gary, at 19th Avenue and Hayes Street.
During the stop, Roa discovered a drug store bag containing six individual plastic bags with a pound of a plant-like material in each one. The material was tested and positively identified as marijuana, police said.
Francis was arrested and taken to Lake County Jail for possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana, dealing marijuana and driving while intoxicated under a controlled substance.
