For many, the cornucopia is a symbol associated with the Thanksgiving holiday. | File photo

Remember what Thanksgiving means. If all retail stores were closed on Thanksgiving, I think retail business would survive. The point is family and friends should be with each other on Thanksgiving.
Regarding funding Link: To deter crime we seize assets that are used in committing those crimes. I propose that any foreign assets that are used to avoid paying taxes to the Internal Revenue Service be seized. There should be no appeals till after the assets are seized. Criminals know how to hide them there, and they know why they are hiding them there. Seized funds then can be used to support the Link program and to bring the pension fund debt under control.
A Will County workers union robocall told me to call my elected county board member to tell them to give in to the union and vote for a pay raise. I was upset this was a recorded message because I had a question to ask these union members: Where does the money come from to give them a raise? The board has a fiduciary responsibility to voters and taxpayers. I think it’s the property owners and other taxpayers that will pay for this raise. Why not just go door to door demanding their neighbors cough up more money to them?
I’d like to say thank you very much to the students of Shepard High School’s Leo Club for the Moonlight Harvest Senior Citizen Dance. Principal Josh Barron and the teachers should be so proud. Thank you to the sponsors who donated the beautiful raffle prizes.

Clueless! Mayor Domingo Vargas, of Blue Island, served as an alderman before being elected mayor. What was he doing as an alderman? Was his head in the sand? He seems to think blaming others for the problem is the answer. Hey, it’s your ball game now, buddy. Step up to the plate. It’s your turn at bat. Don’t foul out.
I’ve always felt that talking and boasting about one’s faith is similar to talking and boasting about one’s sex life. Both of these matters are meant to be private. The more public people try to make them, the cheaper they become.

To the commenter that feels retail stores should be closed on Thanksgiving so that employees can be with their families: Should police and fire departments along with hospitals be closed too? These people work on Christmas and New Year’s Day as well, along with all other holidays. It’s part of the job. They realized that when they were hired. So what makes people in retail stores any different? That’s what they’re being paid for.
A lot of Democrats are boasting that the economic recovery is really taking off. If you think there is a recovery, then go try to get a job.

Drivers with super-bright headlights are sending the message that I’m bigger, I’m badder and get out of my way. These are probably the same type of drivers who take up two spaces when illegally parking in handicapped spaces.
Kudos to all the TV stations and the meteorologists for the great jobs they did during the recent storm and tornadoes. They let us know exactly where and when the storms were hitting our area and how to prepare for it.

If a woman takes drugs while pregnant, then her child is subject to being born with drugs in his system. But what if the father takes drugs? Is there any effect during conception?
There are all kinds of scams going on out there. I received a preapproved credit card application asking for my information along with $37 for processing. They sure keep you on your toes.
I had one of those junk insurance policies and was unaware of the limitations until I had to use it. I paid into this insurance for more than five years. After I filed a claim, they paid absolutely zero and afterward, they dumped me.
We have repeat offenders committing crimes on innocent people all the time. Then the criminals plea-bargain and they’re out on the street to commit more crimes. We need more prisons, not more discount department stores and warehouse stores.
I strongly object to the Orland Park Public Library allowing their computers to be used to possibly view pornographic material. This is a place that should be safe especially for children.
Why are people so hard on celebrities? Stars are people too. They live in the public eye, but they have feelings like the rest of us.
I would think President Obama would throw up his hands and cry, “Uncle.” He is not fit for the job. He wants everything he puts before Congress to be passed right now and fast. His legacy will be based on one crisis after another with lie after lie. Maybe this was his hope and change for the United States. He has accomplished his hope and changed our country into where we are: always down-and-out and hurting. I’m disappointed with some of our media and elected officials for letting him get away with this.
