Josh Arndt didn’t need a school record to win Tuesday’s Mishawaka Diving Regional, but he got one anyway.
The LaPorte junior scored 517.6 points to win the regional title and claim one of the eight bids to this weekend’s state meet in Indianapolis.
Also qualifying were Portage’s Alex Rosales (420.85, fifth) and Valparaiso teammates Zach Schwartz (409.7, sixth) and Muyenda Burnett (388.6, seventh).
“He was on his reverse 2 1/2 and he maintained a good lead after that,” LaPorte diving coach Mel Kovenz said. “He’s pretty much on and relaxed. Now it’s down to state.”
Arndt won the LaPorte Sectional title last weekend with a score of 506.15. He also won the Duneland Athletic Conference title with a 455.90.
