FIRST TEAM

Stevan Micic

Hanover Central, So., 106 pounds

By the numbers: 47-0 record

Skinny: Undefeated state champion. In the final, handed fellow sophomore Nathan Boston of Lawrence North his first high school loss, avenging a loss from last season’s 103 semifinals.

Darden Schurg

Crown Point, Fr., 113

By the numbers: 40-6

Skinny: Placed fourth in the state. Placed third in a semistate, after winning regional and sectional titles.

Paul Petrov

Hanover Central, Sr., 120

By the numbers: 47-0

Skinny: Undefeated state champion. Before winning an exciting final, pinned last season’s 112 champion Mason Todd of Pendleton Heights in the semifinals, avenging a loss from last season’s semis. Bucknell recruit.

Kyle Ayersman

Lake Central, Sr., 126

By the numbers: 52-0

Skinny: Became the 25th three-time champion in state history, winning his last two titles in undefeated fashion. Purdue recruit ended his illustrious high school career with a 193-2 record.

Al Padilla

Merrillville, Sr., 132

By the numbers: 35-8

Skinny: Semistate quarterfinalist, losing to the eventual champion. Won a regional title, after he was a sectional runner-up.

Joe Kelly

Chesterton, Sr., 138

By the numbers: 18-5

Skinny: State qualifier, losing to the eventual champion. Placed fourth in a semistate, after he was a regional runner-up and won a sectional.

Jason Tsirtsis

Crown Point, Sr., 145

By the numbers: 45-0

Skinny: Became the eighth four-time champion in state history. Went 3-0 at the team state meet. Northwestern recruit ended his legendary high school career with a 181-2 record, with his only losses coming as a freshman.

Kenny Hughes

Lowell, So., 152

By the numbers: 35-7

Skinny: State qualifier. Placed third in a semistate, after placing third in a regional and he was a sectional runner-up.

Bobby Steveson

Merrillville, Fr., 160

By the numbers: 39-2

Skinny: Placed fifth in the state. Won semistate, regional and sectional titles. His only losses came to the state third-place finisher in the quarterfinals and Crown Point’s Jason Tsirtsis.

Skinny: Placed eighth in the state. Won semistate, regional and sectional titles.

Skinny: State qualifier. Placed fourth in a semistate, after winning regional and sectional titles.

Skinny: State runner-up, wrestling on a torn right ACL all season. Won semistate, regional and sectional titles.

Tyler Kral

Crown Point, Sr., 220

Skinny: State champion, defeating South Bend Clay’s Joe Gallegos in the final to avenge an overtime loss in a semistate final. Went 3-0 in the team state meet. Went 4-1 against Lake Central’s Gelen Robinson, with the one loss coming in team regionals and the wins including in a state semifinal and a semistate semifinal. Won regional and sectional titles.

Skinny: Placed fifth in the state, losing in the quarterfinals to the eventual runner-up. His only other losses came to Crown Point’s Jason Tsirtsis, in semistate, regional and sectional finals.

Skinny: Placed eighth in the state, losing to the eventual champion in the quarterfinals. His only four losses entering the state meet all had come to Merrillville’s Bobby Steveson, including in semistate, regional and sectional finals.

Skinny: Semistate quarterfinalist. Won regional and sectional titles.

Morgan Kral

Skinny: Placed third in the state. Placed third in a semistate, after winning regional and sectional titles. Four of his losses came to Crown Point’s Tyler Kral, also getting a win in team regionals against the state champion; and his only other loss came to South Bend Clay’s Joe Gallegos, splitting two matches with the state runner-up.
