UNION MILLS — It didn’t take long for Washington Township to overpower South Central in the second semifinal game of the Mid-Winter Classic. The Senators cruised to an 81-51 win over the Satellites, using an inside-out attack to dominate on offense. Senior Ryan Geberin led all scores with 26 points, while classmate Bobby Ross recorded a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds).
“Geberin is our hardest worker, it doesn’t shock me that he’s playing well at all,” Senators coach Scott Bowersock said. “Day in and day out he has worked on that shot of his and clearly it’s paying off big-time.”
South Central didn’t have an answer for Ross as evidenced by the 20 fouls it committed throughout the contest.
“That’s the beautiful thing about basketball, when you can score inside, it opens everything else up, and if you have shooters, you’re going to be hard to stop,” Bowersock said.
The Satellites struggled all night despite shooting 54 percent (22-of-41). Credit Washington Township for playing aggressive on defense all night, forcing a lot of Satellite turnovers.
“I made it a point to my team that it was important that we play hard for all four quarters,” Bowersock said. “In all of our losses this season, it’s been because of fourth quarter collapses and tonight that did not happen.”
South Central had balanced scoring with six players recording buckets. Adam Clindaniel (13), Joel Poling (10), and Brett Walters (11) all reached double figures.
In the first game of night, Westville defeated LaCrosse 82-64. The Blackhawks were led by senior Dylan Perney (17 points) and junior Shawn Gerron (23 points).
