As if parents of Roosevelt College and Career Academy children had enough to worry about after heating issues the last few days postponed a couple days of school, but now the girls basketball parents won’t have any postseason games to worry about.
That’s not a good thing for most parents who want to see their kids compete.
Roosevelt was left off Sunday’s IHSAA Girls Basketball Sectional Draw in the Class 3A Griffith Sectional. According to Griffith athletic director Bill Crowley, IHSAA commissioner Bobby Cox said the school did not submit a roster in time for the deadline.
“I did not get (a roster) from the IHSAA,” Crowley said. “All I can say is we received rosters from the other four schools (Lew Wallace, Hammond High, Gavit and Clark) and not one from Roosevelt.
“I know they have some problems with heating issues — I could not get a hold of anybody over there.”
Phone calls from the Post-Tribune also went unanswered, going to a voice mail message stating that school was closed on Monday due to no heat.
The Panthers are currently 2-7 overall — well under the number of games most girls teams have with one week left in the season. They have one regular season game left on Tuesday night against Lew Wallace. Lani Edmonds, who is the daughter of former East Chicago Central coach Ron Edmonds, took over as the head coach this season. She did not return multiple calls.
