Indiana back at No. 1 in AP poll

Indiana reclaimed the top spot in the Associated Press’ Top 25 by virtue of its 81-73 victory Saturday against then-No. 1 Michigan. The Hoosiers were No. 1 for the first five weeks of the season before being upset by Butler in December. Florida is second, Michigan third, Duke fourth and Kansas fifth.

The Hoosiers received 58 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel while Florida, which jumped two spots to second, got the other seven.

Widespread match-fixing in soccer: A wide-ranging match-fixing probe has uncovered more than 680 suspicious soccer games, including World Cup and European Championship qualifiers and two Champions League games, and found evidence that a Singapore-based crime gang is closely involved in match-fixing, Europol said Monday.

Lions release WR Young: The Detroit Lions released receiver Titus Young, who was banished from the team in November for what coach Jim Schwartz called unacceptable behavior and later was put on injured reserve. He caught 33 passes for 383 yards and four touchdowns in 2012.

A’s swing deal with Astros: The Oakland Athletics acquired infielder Jed Lowrie (.244 average, 16 home runs, 42 RBI in 2012) and right-hander Fernando Rodriguez (2-10, 5.37 ERA) from the Houston Astros for first baseman Chris Carter (.239, 16 homers, 39 RBI) and two minor-leaguers.

Wings’ Smith out 2-4 weeks: The Detroit Red Wings said defenseman Brendan Smith will be out two to four weeks with a sprained right shoulder.
