The Indiana High School Athletic Association basketball tournament got off to a rocky start in Northwest Indiana.
Winter storms forced three sites to postpone games.
The Class 4A Michigan City Sectional, the Class 3A Kankakee Valley Sectional and the Class 2A Winamac sectional all canceled Tuesday games because of sleet, rain and snow that blanketed the area.
The five other sectionals — at Gary West Side, at Hammond, at Wheeler and at Kouts — all played their games.
All the games for the postponed sectionals were moved to Thursday. That means that Valparaiso and Portage play at Michigan City tonight at 6. That game is followed by Chesterton and LaPorte at 7:30. The Kankakee Valley-Andrean will be played tonight at 6 while the Knox-Calumet is scheduled for 7:30. At Winamac, the North Judson-Winamac game was moved to 5:30 and the Boone Grove-Rochester game was moved to 7.
The second and third round games are all slated to begin at their regularly scheduled times on Friday and Saturday.
