Lake Station names football coach

Richard Lunsford was named head football coach at Lake Station High School on Wednesday. Lunsford replaces Mike Hepp, who was dismissed last month. The School Board appointed Lunsford along with several other coaches including Linda Llewellyn as varsity girls volleyball coach and Kristy Hite as girls varsity tennis coach.

Heat up streak to 24: LeBron James scored 25 as the visiting Miami Heat overcame a 27-point deficit in the third quarter and won their 24th game in a row, 98-95, over the short-handed Cleveland Cavaliers to extend the NBA’s second-longest winning streak.

NFL passes two new rules concerning player safety: NFL owners passed a player-safety rule barring ball carriers from using the crown of their helmets to make forcible contact with a defender in the open field. Also, the much-criticized tuck rule was eliminated. Now, if a quarterback loses control of the ball before he has fully protected it after opting not to throw, it is a fumble.
