Schedule: Morton vs. Munster, 6 p.m., Monday; East Chicago vs. Clark, 5 p.m., Hammond vs. Morton-Munster, 7 p.m., Wednesday; final, 2 p.m., Saturday
Skinny: Munster has won 11 straight sectional titles — the longest streak in state history — and 12 in 13 seasons. The Mustangs haven’t had a vintage season, and they could be challenged by the likes of Hammond, Clark and East Chicago, but they’re clearly the team to beat.
Next: Winner vs. Valparaiso Sectional winner in Merrillville Regional semifinals, Oct. 17
Schedule: Gavit vs. Griffith, 5 p.m., Highland vs. Lake Central, 7 p.m., Wednesday; final, 7 p.m., Saturday
Skinny: Lake Central has won 10 straight sectional titles, but could the Indians be vulnerable? With a ton of youth, they have had an extremely uncharacteristic season, though their tradition can’t be overlooked. Still, a revitalized Highland has had a strong season, and the Trojans — who last won a sectional in 1999 — edged LC 3-2 back on Aug. 26.
Next: Winner vs. Merrillville Sectional winner in Merrillville Regional semifinals, Oct. 17
Schedule: Crown Point vs. Merrillville, 5 p.m., Kankakee Valley vs. Lowell, 7 p.m., Wednesday; final, 6 p.m., Saturday
Skinny: Crown Point had a brilliant regular season, going undefeated. Spurred in part by last season’s early exit in regionals, the Bulldogs have aspirations to add to their 2011 state title.
Next: Winner vs. Lake Central Sectional winner in Merrillville Regional semifinals, Oct. 17
Schedule: Portage vs. Valparaiso, 5 p.m., Chesterton vs. Hobart, 7 p.m., Wednesday; final, 5 p.m., Saturday
Skinny: It took PKs for Valparaiso to defeat a resurgent Portage on Wednesday. The rematch should also be terrific, as would one between either the Vikings or Indians and fellow DAC member Chesterton; in the face of key personnel losses, the Trojans have had an outstanding season, with their only losses coming to Valparaiso and Crown Point. Valparaiso has won back-to-back sectionals, advancing to a semistate last season.
Next: Winner vs. Munster Sectional winner in Merrillville Regional semifinals, Oct. 17
South Bend St. Joseph’s
Schedule: LaPorte vs. South Bend St. Joseph’s, 5 p.m., Michigan City vs. South Bend Washington, 7 p.m., Wednesday; final, 1 p.m., Saturday
Skinny: South Bend St. Joseph’s has won three straight sectional titles. LaPorte, far from a stranger to close games this season, won’t be an easy out.
Next: Winner vs. Warsaw Sectional winner in Mishawaka Regional semifinals, Oct. 17
Schedule: Hanover Central vs. Andrean, 5 p.m., Monday; Covenant Christian vs. Bishop Noll, 5 p.m., Rensselaer vs. Hanover Central-Andrean, 7 p.m., Wednesday; final, 2 p.m., Saturday
Skinny: It could come down to a showdown between Andrean and Bishop Noll (a former sectional host). New host Covenant Christian (which lost at Noll 3-1 on Thursday) previously had played in the sectional at Rensselaer, which has had a record-setting season.
Next: Winner vs. Wheeler Sectional winner in LaVille Regional semifinals, Oct. 17
Schedule: Marquette vs. Wheeler, 5 p.m., Monday; Lighthouse vs. Washington Twp, 5 p.m., Westville vs. Marquette-Wheeler, 7 p.m., Wednesday; final, 6 p.m., Saturday
Skinny: Wheeler resumes its pre-class-system hosting duties. The Bearcats won back-to-back sectional titles at Rensselaer, and Marquette was the surprise champion last season at Noll; the Blazers topped Wheeler 3-2 on Sept. 3 this season. Lighthouse is slated to make its postseason debut.
Next: Winner vs. Covenant Christian Sectional winner in LaVille Regional semifinals, Oct. 17
Schedule: Kouts vs. Hebron, 4:45 p.m., Monday; Boone Grove vs. Oregon-Davis, 4:45 p.m., Tuesday; Morgan Township vs. Kouts-Hebron, 4:45 p.m., Wednesday; final, 2 p.m., Saturday
Skinny: Boone Grove has won back-to-back crowns, and is the favorite to make it three straight. The Wolves have put together an excellent season, with their only losses coming to Crown Point and Chesterton.
