Women’s basketball: Valpo travels to play IPFW
December 3, 2012 10:56PM
women’s basketball: VALPO (2-5) AT IPFW (3-3)
When: 6 p.m., today. Radio: 95.1-FM
Skinny: Time to hit the road again after a disappointing loss to St. Louis at home on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders have lost all four road contests this season and five straight overall after starting off 2-0. Valpo’s offense struggled mightily in the loss to the Billikens scoring just 17 points in the final 25 minutes as their 11-point lead turned into a six-point loss.
This one is big. Valpo takes on No. 8-ranked Louisville on Saturday then back-to-back contests against Western Michigan and the University of Michigan on Dec. 19-20. So this will clearly be the most winnable game on the team’s four-game road trip. These teams have met 14 times in school history with Valparaiso holding a 9-5 edge in the all-time series. The Crusaders held the Mastodons to just 23 percent shooting last year en route to a 64-43 win at the ARC. Tabitha Gerardot had a strong night scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in that contest. Numbers like that should be pretty attainable this time around too.
Amanda Hyde is IPFW’s leading scorer averaging 19.5 points per contest. She tied a school record in her team’s last contest notching 43 points in a 78-65 win over Southern Illinois.
