VU women visit Western Michigan

Updated: January 20, 2013 6:32AM

Valparaiso (3-6) AT
Western Michigan (3-7)

When: 6 p.m. today.

Radio: 95.1-FM

The Skinny: The Crusaders are on the road for back-to-back contests against Western Michigan and Michigan tonight and Thursday night, following a week off with final exams. VU is 3-6 against the Broncos all-time. The Crusaders will need to focus on the Broncos’ top scorers Aurielle Anderson (9.7 ppg) and Corie Buchanon (9.7 ppg, 4.9 rpg).

VU lost on the road to No. 8 Louisville 96-40 in its previous contest but should give the Broncos a run for their money. Junior Charae Richardson, who picked up Horizon League Newcomer of the Week honors last week in helping the Crusaders split games with IPFW and Louisville, is becoming more comfortable in the offense, recording a career-high 15 points and tying a career high with six assists in the win over IPFW. Junior Tabitha Gerardot (12.4 ppg, 7.6 rpg) has continued to be her steady self, leading the team in scoring in five contests and tying for team high in rebounding in seven games. She has posted a double-double (her best performance, 18 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Purdue Calumet) in seven games this year. Senior Gina Lange has also made nice contributions this season averaging 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds a night.

Coach Tracey Dorow earned her degree in education from Western Michigan in 1996.
