The Valparaiso softball team closed out a Horizon League series victory at Detroit in emphatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, scoring 12 runs in the first inning en route to a 17-0 win over the Titans.
The Crusaders’ 17 runs matched the third-most in a single game in and were just one shy of the single-game record. They set a single-game high with a 12-run first inning.
Freshman Kaitlyn Ranieri had four walks to set a team-record for a single game.
The Crusaders also were able to take advantage of eight Titan errors. Janelle Bouchard highlighted the victory going 3-for-4, with two home runs and six RBI. All nine Valpo starters scored, with eight of them plating two runs apiece.
VU baseball flips the script in win over No. 9 Arizona State: The Valparaiso baseball team erupted for seven runs in two innings to shock the No. 9 Arizona State Sun Devils in an 8-6 victory on Sunday in Tempe, Ariz.
The Crusaders salvaged the series after suffering two straight blowouts to the Sun Devils.
“Offensively, I thought we hit the ball this weekend as well as any. Today, especially, it all came together,” said coach Tracy Woodson.
The victory was the school’s first against a Pac-12 team.
Valparaiso (15-23) will travel back to Indiana before facing Chicago State at home on Tuesday.
