The Valparaiso baseball team knocked off visiting Wright State 5-1 on Friday.
After allowing an unearned run to cross the plate in the first, VU responded with back-to-back doubles by Tanner Vavra and John Loeffler to even the score.
Chris Manning pushed VU over the edge, homering over the left-center fence to give the Crusaders the lead 3-1.
Voigt, Kleckner earn all-Horizon League women’s golf honors: Valparaiso junior golfers Kelly Voigt and Michelle Kleckner were both named to the all-Horizon League team when the conference announced the season golf awards on Thursday.
Both golfers made the all-league team for the first time in their Crusaders careers. Valparaiso was one of two schools to play multiple members on the all-league squad.
Voigt posted a 77.8 stroke average for the year, which was best for the Crusaders. She won medalist honors at both the CSU Cougar Classic (even-par 144) and the Dayton Fall Invitational (3-under 139).
Gring, Gaugert and Henning honored at HL men’s golf awards: Valparaiso men’s golf coach David Gring was selected as the Horizon League Coach of the Year, while senior Austin Gaugert and junior Kyle Henning were both named to the all-league teams when the Horizon League announced its season awards on Thursday.
The honors are career-first for each of the trio.
Gring presided over a squad that earned victories at the Purdue Midwest Shootout and the Bradley Invitational. The Crusaders recorded six top-three finishes in 11 tournaments.
Softball team falls at Purdue: The Valparaiso softball team scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead at Purdue on Wednesday, but the Boilermakers scored three in the bottom half of the frame and the Crusaders left the bases loaded in the seventh as they fell 4-2.
