Bowling Semistate Outlook
February 7, 2012 11:30PM
Updated: March 9, 2012 8:20AM
When: Saturday — 8 a.m. singles event, noon team event
Where: Pro Bowl West, 1455 Goshen Road in Fort Wayne
Boys team qualifiers: Highland*, Crown Point, Lake Central, Penn, Lake Station, Carroll*, Elkhart Central, Eastside, Northrop, Rochester*, Lebanon, Lafayette Jeff
Boys local singles: Andrean: Jake McCoy*; Chesterton: Jacob Hollingshead, Nate Sipe; Clark: Jeremy Rusnack; LaPorte: Nate Nieto; Hanover: Kevin Beemster, Austin Moran; Hobart: Jerry James, Bobby Eberle; Lake Station: Matt Laviolette; Hebron: Anthony Morales
* — regional champions
Boys outlook: Again, based on scores from the Fort Wayne Regional, which was held at Georgetown Bowl, region teams could be in for some pain. All four of the advancing teams in Fort Wayne shot higher than the Michigan City advancing teams, including an impressive 3,138 from regional champ Carroll. But who knows if Georgetown complied with the sport shot requirements. If it did, that’s trouble. Lake Central, Highland and Crown Point still have a good chance at grinding on any lane condition, especially the way they’re on a roll right now.
Girls team qualifiers: Lake Central*, Boone Grove, Portage, Hebron, Homestead*, Columbia City, Northrop, DeKalb, Lebanon*, Harrison, McCutcheon
Girls local singles: Merrillville: Carly Larson*, Kasey Stewart; Boone Grove: Mattie Smith; Lake Central: Kelly Belzeski, Caroline Dienes; LaPorte: Trinity King; Lowell: Emily Klotz; Griffith: Maggie Cartwright; Lake Station: Rachel Waters
* — regional champions
Girls outlook: The girls champs at the other two regionals shot better than the Michigan City teams. But the way Lake Central is rolling, it may not matter what the scores were last week. The Indians look like they’re in sync right now. Portage admittedly didn’t bowl well on Saturday, but escaped. Hebron had the top seed for most of the regional, while Boone Grove made a lat run before falling short in the final match. All three of these teams have a good shot at advancing along with LC.
Next: Top four boys and girls teams and top 9 boys and 10 girls individuals advance to the state finals on Feb. 18 at Arrowhead Bowl in Lafayette.
