Skinny: The level of swimming seems to be on the rise throughout NWI with strong upperclassmen like Chesterton’s Olivia Kabacinski (who had two runner finishes in 2011 and won a title the year before) and Munster’s Brittany Gilbert and competing with powerful underclassmen like Crown Point’s Aly Tetzloff (who already holds multiple records in her freshman year). And top-10 perennial threats such Chesterton (placed fourth three years in a row) and Munster are vying to remain among the top. But for individuals and teams alike, the Central Indiana competition is again a force to be reckoned with. Powerhouse Carmel hasn’t lost a state title since the 1986 season. A win for the Greyhounds would mark their 26th straight.
