1. Chesterton
The Trojans didn’t necessarily have an easy time of it against St. Joe’s, a very good 3A team. They get a Week 1 pass for working out some early season issues.
2. Lake Central
David Yancey led the very impressive Indians to a 40-0 shutout over Munster. The Indians are really No. 1A next to Chesterton.
3. Merrillville
The Pirates get the benefit of the doubt after losing to a powerful Warren Central team last week. Andrean won’t be nearly as hard.
4. Griffith
The Panthers won a shootout over Morton last week. It was a big win on the road for them. Tonight’s game against New Prairie should be very interesting.
5. Morton
Kudos to the expert insight from various sources that said the Panthers should have been ranked one place ahead of the Governors for the opening game.
6. Valparaiso
The Vikings move up two spots to No. 6 after holding their own against a good Penn team on the road. Carmel will be even harder.
7. Andrean
Expect Merrillville to remember how badly things went last year when Andrean pulled off the upset.
8. Crown Point
The Bulldogs should run their record to 2-0 tonight at Hobart. Week 3 against Merrillville will be a litmus test.
9. Lowell
The Red Devils could make some major poll progress with a victory against Morton this week.
10. Boone Grove
The Wolves make their first appearance in the P-T top 10. They get Noll tonight, so it probably lasts at least another week.
