High expectations for Hobart
Hobart volleyball raised the bar this year winning 20 matches for the first time in recent history as Zoe Wilson, Caylie Pruitt and Grayce Roach stepped up their play to lead the Brickies.
Luck also seems to be on Hobart’s (20-12) side.
The Brickies, who haven’t won a sectional title since 1975, drew a favorable draw in the Class 4A Sectional 2 bracket playing Portage in the first round on Tuesday.
Hobart defeated Portage in five games earlier in the season and face the Merrillville-Michigan City winner on Saturday morning if the Brickies advance past the Indians. The championship match is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.
Coach Kristi Hoese said her team is feeling confident going into sectional week.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better draw,” she said. “We’re two very compatible teams and I think we’re feeling good having beat them in our first game of the year.
“This is our time to shine and we can do this and I think they can come out and step it up.”
Hobart hasn’t won a sectional contest since Hoese’s first year coaching four years ago.
“I think we can make it (to the championship),” she said. “I have high hopes for them and I hope they have the same.”
