The skinny: Fresh off of its victory at last Saturday’s New Prairie Semistate, Valparaiso enters the race as the No. 2 ranked team in the state with a very real chance at capturing the program’s seventh state championship and the first since 2000. Some of the Vikings’ toughest competition will come from teams like top-ranked FW Carroll, Hamilton Southeastern and Columbus North — programs that are also coming off of semistate victories. Connor Sorrells (Barr-Reeve), Troy Reeder (Hamilton SE), and Zachery Panning (Concordia) are three of the top runners sure to compete with region individual standouts like Kostelnik, Eller and Coulopoulos.
