Girls golf all-area team

First Team
Kelly Grassel, Sr., Chesterton
Raves: Two-time defending individual state champion Grassel is going to Michigan State in the fall on a scholarship to play golf.
By the Numbers: Grassel averaged 70.3 for 18 holes (nearly two strokes under par) and 36.5 for nine holes. She shot a 9-under 63 at the Kankakee Valley Invitational this season.
Harley Dubsky, Jr. Valparaiso
Raves: The best player coming back next season. Finished third individually at state.
By the Numbers: Averaged 72.1 for 18 holes and 36.2 for nine holes for the Vikings. Medaled at the West Lafayette Regional with a wind-blown score of 73.
Marissa Kroeger, Sr. Chesterton
Raves: Kroeger was a formidable complement at the No.2 position for the Trojans.
By the Numbers: Averaged 40.0 for nine holes and 79.8 for 18 holes. She shot an even-par 72 at the Brassie for the DAC Tournament.
Jennifer Gough, So. Valparaiso
Raves: Very solid No.2 for the Vikings. One of the best, if not the best, sophomores in the area.
By the Numbers: Averaged 42.1 for 9 holes and 83.1 for 18 holes. She finished in second place at the Valparaiso Sectional with a score of 82. She finished 31st at the state finals — Dubsky and Grassel were the only local golfers ahead of her.
Kylie Shoemake, So., Lake Central
Raves: Another super sophomore. Best player on a very good Lake Central team.
By the Numbers: Averaged 41 for nine holes and 83 for 18 holes. Shot 84 at the Lafayette Jeff Regional. She finished 57th at state.
Second Team
Kiana Jongsma, Jr. Lake Central
Raves: One part of a really good duo at LC.
By the Numbers: Averaged 43 for nine holes and 86 for 18 holes. Finished 36th overall at the state finals with rounds of 84 and 80.
Nicole Dutz, Sr. Chesterton
Raves: Dutz was capable of going low for the Trojans. She was part of a solid three-headed monster for them.
By the numbers: She averaged 42.5 for nine holes and 85.6 for 18 holes. She was an All-DAC player who shot 78 and finished third at the New Prairie Invitational.
Tiffany Curtis, Fr., Crown Point
Raves: Best freshman in the area — only local freshman state qualifier.
By the Numbers: Averaged 81 for 18 holes and shot an 86 at regionals on a windy day to qualify for state. All-DAC player.
Lucia Bracco, Sr. Crown Point
Raves: Solid four-year performer for the Bulldogs.
By the Numbers: Averaged 82.3 for 18 holes. Was the medalist at the Bishop Noll Sectional at Lost Marsh. Was an All-DAC player.
Brooke Fullenkampf, Jr. Valparaiso
Raves: Fullenkampf was consistent all year for the Vikings.
By the Numbers: She averaged 44 for nine holes and 87.2 for 18 holes. She shot 84-83 at the state finals and she finished second in the Lake Central Invite with a 78.
