1. Michigan City

Friday’s Duneland opener against Lake Central is the first test for the Wolves in a season that should result in very few losses, if any.

2. West Side

The Cougars started with an easy win at LaLumiere on Wednesday. They need to wait until Dec. 1 against SB Washington for a challenge.

3. Lowell

The Red Devils started with an easy win over Hammond on Tuesday. East Chicago could be a challenge on Saturday.

4. Merrillville

The Pirates won their first two games by a combined 132-49 score. They won’t be that easy when DAC games start this week.

5. Hobart

The Brickies are off to a 3-0 start, but the games get tougher starting with Friday’s NCC opener at Griffith.

6. Whiting

The Oilers are also off to a hot start, outscoring their first two opponents 108-33. Two games this weekend against Gavit and Bowman will be tougher.

7. LaPorte

The Slicers hope to be the team that sneaks up on the leaders in the DAC, and step one is Friday at Chesterton.

8. Hanover Central

The Wildcats had a bump in the road, losing to South Central in the PCC opener, but the Satellites are much better this season.

9. Lake Central

The Indians are off to a 1-2 start, but that’s not unusual since they played in the tough Hamilton SE tourney last weekend.

10. Rensselaer

The Bombers are off to a 3-0 start, with a win over defending sectional champ Knox as a barometer for how much they’ve improved.

The 6-foot freshman post player got over the nerves of starting in the Porter County Conference opener by scoring 27 points in the Satellites’ 68-63 victory over Hanover on Saturday.
