First Team
Singles
Jack Heiniger
Munster Senior
Raves: There’s nothing like going out on top as a senior. The No. 1 player went undefeated locally and made it onto the first team all-state.
Ben Kalisch
Valparaiso Senior
Raves: A team captain in all aspects, the No. 1 player helped propel the Vikings to their second state appearance in three years. He was also on first-team all-state.
Michael Varda
LaPorte Sophomore
Raves: It wasn’t a big surprise that the top singles spot was a smooth transition for him. Coming off a strong freshman year, Varda helped the rebuilding Slicers with his success.
Doubles
Kelan Harish and Michael Kitchell
Munster Seniors
Raves: This tandem was one of a couple different options for the multi-faceted program. And in the path of being named to first team all-state list, they helped the Mustangs take home another regional trophy.
Peter Williams and Jared Folke
Valparaiso Senior and Junior
Raves: They helped the Vikings rebound from a disappointing finish in 2011 to make another appearance in Indianapolis. Along with being named to the first team all-district team, they helped Valparaiso win the Duneland Conference.
Second Team
Singles
Marty Pochop
Valparaiso Senior
Raves: A big reason that the Vikings have been so dangerous over these past three seasons is the No. 2 singles player who made second-team all-state.
Boris Pavlovski
Crown Point Junior
Raves: Transitioning into the top singles role didn’t come that hard for Pavlovski, who was an all-district team member and was clutch many times over for the sectional champs.
Colin Richter
Munster Junior
Raves: In his second full year of varsity action, he earned his keep on the area’s top team, often serving as a probable swing point. He was named to the all-district team.
Doubles
Carson Hoogewerf and Dominic Peretin
Crown Point Juniors
Raves: Strong high school teams often rely on viable chances at doubles. This pair fought through a number of wars from the No. 1 doubles spot to earn their position on the all-district team.
Drew Heinold and Lucas Jessen
Wheeler Seniors
Raves: Part of what makes Wheeler a big small-school threat is the flexibility of its lineup. This pairing, formed weeks into the season, is a prime example. They gelled quickly and earned a spot on the all-district team.
Honorable Mention
Singles — Jack Hibbard, Wheeler; Jeff McElfresh, Portage; Pat Mudd, Crown Point; Nygel Jackson, Merrillville; Eric Cender, Valparaiso; Miles Droege and Zach Liberatore, LaPorte (doubles)
