Boone Grove Invite coming up Saturday
It’s billed as the best of the best in the northern half of the state when it comes to high school bowling.
The always exciting Boone Grove Invite will be packed into the 16 lanes of Hebron Lanes on Saturday starting at noon.
The sixth annual event consists of 16 teams (eight boys and eight girls) that are invited based on their performance so far this season.
Local boys teams competing are Lake Central, Chesterton, Lowell, Highland and Hobart, which are joined by Huntington North, Elkhart Memorial and Elkhart Central. Local girls teams in the field are Lake Central, Merrillville, Boone Grove, Portage and Highland, which are joined by Huntington North, Homestead and Elkhart Memorial.
Those 16 teams have combined for more than 100 wins this season with six conferences represented in the boys division and seven for girls.
In the past, this has been a precursor to postseason success. In 2010-11, seven of the 16 teams advanced to the state finals, while last year three teams reached state.
