The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association announced its 2013 hall of fame class and a pair from Northwest Indiana will be inducted — Chesterton coach Jack Campbell and East Chicago Washington graduate Kenny Lofton.
Campbell has been coaching at Chesterton since 1970, winning more than 600 games, 16 sectional titles and three regional crowns. He also led the Big Ten in hitting as a senior at Indiana University.
Lofton graduated from ECW in 1985 and went on to star at Arizona State in both baseball and basketball. He played with 11 teams in Major League Baseball, hitting .299 for his career as a six-time all-star and four-time Gold Glove winner. He’s also one of only two men to play in both the NCAA Final Four in basketball and the World Series. Ironically, the other is fellow E.C. Washington grad Tim Stoddard with North Carolina State University and the Baltimore Orioles.
