Boone girls, LC boys win at BG Invite
Northwest Indiana teams finished on top of both divisions at Saturday’s Boone Grove Invite at Hebron Lanes since the popular event expanded to include boys and girls, and one of the teams got to celebrate on its home lanes.
Lake Central won the boys title for the second straight year, defeating Hobart 2-0 in the best-of-three final. LC was led during qualifying by Andy Schmied, who posted the high two-game series of 482 — the only series over 400 by anyone.
But it was host Boone Grove that pulled off the minor surprise, winning the girls crown with a 2-1 victory over Lake Central, which defeated Portage in a dramatic semifinal.
Carly Larson was the top local girl with 392 in qualifying, while Boone’s Angelique McKeny shot 390.
