A pair of Crown Point High School graduates and an East Chicago Roosevelt standout are part of the Indiana’s Basketball Hall of Fame 12th women’s induction class in 2013. Former CP teammates Nancy (Cowan) Eksten and Anne (Kvachkoff) Equihua will be inducted in a ceremony on April 27, as well as 1980 E.C. Roosevelt grad Lisa Sanchez.
Eksten and Equihua contributed to the great Bulldogs’ squads on the mid-1980s. Both were on the 1983 state runner-up and 1984 state championship teams, while Equihua helped CP win another state title in 1985. Eksten had set the CP scoring record in 1984, but Equihua broke it the following year with 1,910 points. Sanchez averaged almost 20 points per game as the starting guard on the undefeated 1979 Roosevelt state champion squad.
