Timeout bowling extra: Northwest Indiana high in state rankings

Updated: January 26, 2013 6:21AM

Nothing average about these bowlers, teams

Northwest Indiana bowlers are sitting at the top of almost every category in the Indiana top 10 stat leaders (found at ihsb.org).

In fact, the region is the best in all six girls categories, starting with Boone Grove’s Paige Kraushaar individually. She has the high average (221.3), high series (524) and high game (290), while the Wolves have the top series with 2,024 — the only girls team to top the 2,000 mark.

Portage holds the other two team ranks with top average (959) and game (1,032).

For boys, Chesterton has the highest team average (1,045) and high game (1,179). In fact, the Trojans also have the second-highest game with 1,157, to go with the third-highest series of 2,251, just four pins behind Porter-LaPorte Conference rival LaPorte’s 2,255. Hobart’s Bobby Kammer and Wheeler’s Zach Gilbert are two of six tied for the high game with 300.

As for local averages, the best race is Westlake girls in which Merrillville’s Carl Larson has 208.4, one pin up on Lake Central’s Allison Sellers (207.1). Andrean’s Jake McCoy has the top area average at 225.3.
