Last year, Hobart’s Bobby Eberle lost in the sectional final by one pin after earning the top seed. But he made up for it two weeks later with a semistate title.
On Saturday, he started his final postseason as the top seed after three games again. But this time he defeated Highland’s Jonathan Payne 233-180 in the Duneland Sectional boys singles championship at Plaza Lanes in Highland.
On the girls side, a pair of Highland teammates met in the final as top seed Lindsey Norton rolled past Jessica Dziezak 197-152.
Just like Wednesday’s team event, the Trojans dominated as four girls — Jessica Henson and Catie Bales were the others — and three boys — Jacob Riffle and Jacob Santos join Payne — finished in the top eight to advance to next Saturday’s regional.
In fact, only two teams out of eight advanced girls. The other four spots went to Griffith — Sam Monko, Samie Johnson, Kersten Collins and Sarah Koliboski.
The boys top eight was a little more balanced as Hobart advanced three — Jerry James and Bobby Kammer join Eberle — while Wheeler (Jordan Gilbert) and Calumet (Robbie Peterson) advanced one each.
