Michigan city

Team qualifiers: BOYS — Crown Point*, Munster, Lake Central, Highland*, Hobart, Hanover Central*, Lowell, Chesterton*, LaPorte; Penn*, New Prairie, SB Riley; GIRLS — Lake Central*, Highland*, Hobart, Boone Grove*, Hanover Central, Portage*, Chesterton, Penn*, Argos, SB Clay

Local singles qualifiers: BOYS — Lake Central: Nate Maciejewski*, Ryan Gorman, Andy Schmied; Andrean: Ed Perry, Nick Aloia; Munster: Michael Velesovsky, Robert Dawson; Merrillville: Matt Meacham; Hobart: Bobby Eberle*, Jerry James, Bobby Kammer; Highland: Jonathan Payne, Jacob Riffle, Jacob Santos; Wheeler: Jordan Gilbert; Calumet: Robert Peterson; Hebron: Tim Victor*; Lowell: Dylan Myers, Caleb Elliott, Austin Griffith; Hanover: Alex Beemster, Kevin Beemster, Robert Metcalfe; Chesterton: Nate Sipe*, Mark Childress; LaPorte: Nate Nieto, David Lehman; Michigan City: Chris Hebb, Jacob Smith; Portage: Jordan Trent; GIRLS — Lake Central: Allison Sellers*, Kierstyn Rush; Merrillville: Carly Larson; Crown Point: Sarah Bond, Shelby Lawson; Highland: Lindsey Norton*, Jessica Dziezak, Jessica Henson, Catie Bales; Griffith: Sam Monko, Sami Johnson, Kersten Collins, Sarahj Koliboski; Boone Grove: Paige Kraushaar*, Angelique McKeny, Mattie Smith, Kayla Yadron; Lowell: Lerin Manis, Taylor Helgoth; Hebron: Anna Wilson; Portage: Jackie Rhoda, Paige Chapman, Haley Keller; Chesterton: Candice Tovo*, Heidi Tucker; LaPorte: Erika Perez

* — Sectional champion

Outlook: The Lake Central boys could carry a little luck a long way after not finishing in the top two in the WestLake Sectional, but earning the wildcard by finishing 10 pins behind second place. If the deep Indians regroup in the regional, a long postseason run could follow. Hobart and Highland also have deep teams, while Chesterton still has four 200 averages in the lineup despite the untimely transfer of its second-high average last week. Look for Crown Point and Lowell to challenge for the fifth spot. On the girls side, Portage had no problem advancing, but got a little lucky to win a trophy after surviving a tough match against Chesterton. Lake Central, Highland and Boone Grove are solid, while the rest of the field will be battling for that fifth advancing spot, as well as a possible wildcard.

Next: Top 5 boys teams, plus wildcard (sixth-place team closest to fifth at all regionals), top 5 girls teams, plus wildcard, top 14 boys and girls advance to semistate on Feb. 9 at Chippewa Bowl in South Bend
