Bowling: South Bend Semistate outlook

semistate outlook

When: Saturday — 8 a.m. singles, Noon team event

Where: Chippewa Bowl in South Bend

Team qualifiers: BOYS — Hobart, SB Riley, Highland, Munster, Penn, Lake Central, Elkhart Memorial, FW Snider, FW Northrop, FW Wayne, Carroll, Rochester, Warsaw, McCutcheon, Lafayette Jeff; GIRLS — Boone Grove, Portage, Highland, Lake Central, SB Clay, Homestead, Columbia City, Huntington North, Jimtown, Lafayette Harrison, Lebanon, Peru, Southmont

Local singles qualifiers: BOYS — Hobart: Bobby Eberle, Bobby Kammer; Portage: Jordan Trent; Lowell: Dylan Myers; Munster: Michael Velesovsky, Robert Dawson; Wheeler: Jordan Gilbert; Chesterton: Nate Sipe; Andrean: Nick Aloia; Hebron: Tim Victor; GIRLS — Merrillville: Carly Larson; Chesterton: Candice Tovo*, Heidi Tucker; Crown Point: Shelby Lawson; Portage: Jackie Rhoda; Boone Grove: Paige Kraushaar, Kayla Yadron; Highland: Jessica Dziezak, Lindsey Norton; Lake Central: Kierstyn Rush, Allison Sellers; Griffith: Sarah Koliboski

Outlook: It’s déjà vu for the Lake Central boys. For the second straight postseason event, the Indians got lucky with the wildcard. Can LC turn its good fortune into a trip to state? Joining LC on the boys side are Hobart and Munster. The Brickies rolled at semistate with the top two games. The Mustangs are a surprise advancer, but with two singles qualifiers and a clutch anchor, don’t count them out. Boone Grove girls were dominant in winning their first regional. NWI teams look to be the top ones at semistate, led by the Wolves. Portage, Highland and LC have been good from the beginning of the season and none are surprises to be here. All four could earn a trip to state.

Next: Top 6 boys teams, top 6 girls teams, top 12 boys and 13 girls advance to state finals on Feb. 16 at Mike Aulby’s Arrowhead Bowl in Lafayette
