WHEATFIELD — Collin Wojcik called it the most fun he’s had in a basketball game.
It looked like it.
Wojcik scored 20 points as the 59ers won their fourth straight sectional championship with a 69-47 victory against Hanover Central in the finals of the Class 3A Kankakee Valley Sectional on Saturday.
“We have a class that went through and never loss a sectional game. That’s just very, very rare,” Andrean coach Carson Cunningham said. “This is a special group.”
Wojcik made five 3-pointers and Andrean (20-3) made 10 3-pointers en route to advancing to play Lew Wallace next Saturday in the Plymouth Regional.
“The guys really shared the ball well,” Cunningham said. “… Once you get rolling down the Mississippi, feeling free and easy, the bucket starts looking nice and big.”
Wojcik started the game by making a jumper. And the shots kept on falling.
“I was just playing basketball and not thinking about it,” Wojcik said. “I was just playing the game.”
He had 11 points at the end of the first quarter and 20 points at halftime.
“He got lady mo on his side,” Cunningham said. “When he catches a current, we try to ride that thing. It was nice to watch.”
Wojcik made a 3-pointer from the right corner to start a 14-0 run late in the first quarter. He capped the spurt with a 3-pointer from the left corner with 6:43 to go in the second quarter. The run gave Andrean a 25-9 lead. The 59ers cruised from there, thanks to the hot shooting and tight defense.
“(Assistant coach) Scott Hicko is a defensive guru,” Cunningham said. “… He’s the defensive whisperer.”
Dan Kubiak led Hanover Central (15-8) with 14 points.
Skyler Moss and Nick Davidson added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Andrean.
“We will enjoy this one tonight and tomorrow, but come Monday we’ll get back to work,” Davidson said. “There’s a lot of opportunity for us.”
