CP makes most of its second time on course

It’s been a long, wet spring for golfers in Northwest Indiana.

It got a little longer and wetter on Tuesday when afternoon showers pelted the region.

For Crown Point golfers, the rainfall meant the Bulldogs have only played twice this year.

Once at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru for the Hall of Fame Classic and on Monday, when, after a brief respite of sunshine for a day, they beat Merrillville in a Duneland Athletic Conference match with Pat Mudd finishing as medalist with a 1-under-35 at Summertree Golf Course on the front nine.

Jon Haas, the golf coach for the Bulldogs, thinks he has a pretty good team.

He’d like to know more, though. In addition to Pat Mudd, he has Matt Mudd, his brother, Luke Lambert and Mike Lee. Lee shot a 76 at Rock Hollow. Grant Miller, a freshman, is also good. Miller is the younger brother of Terra Miller. Miller played in college at Illinois State.

Haas said practice so far this year has consisted of no practice at all, just indoor work or short game exercises.

“I’ve never seen it this bad,” he said.
