Washington Twp. making waves

Washington Township keeps winning. And the voters in the state baseball poll — rightfully so — have noticed.

The Senators have an 18-2 record and are ranked No. 6 in Class 1A in the May 6 Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association state poll.

Washington Township has received contributions across the board.

Justin Landgrebe and Tyler Frye are tied for the team lead with five victories. Landgrebe has 63 strikeouts and a 1.36 ERA. Frye has 52 strikeouts. Chase Peiffer has a 1.31 ERA.

Offensively, Bobby Ross has led the way. He is first on the team in batting average (.475), home runs (three), RBI (21) and runs scored (31).

Tyler Byerly and Landgrebe have been other offensive stars. Both have two home runs. Byerly has a .409 average and has scored 21 runs and knocked in 16. Landgrebe has a .359 average and has scored 21 runs.

Andrew Birky, Kouts

Birky had a big week at the plate, collecting 10 RBI in two victories. He went 4-for-6 with a double and six RBI against Covenant Christian. He also scored three runs. Birky went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI in a win against Argos.
