Wrestling: Chesterton’s Jaycee Jensen hands LaPorte’s Mike Eldridge first loss

LAPORTE — Chesterton won a meet-best four individual titles at the LaPorte wrestling sectional on Saturday, highlighted by one from Jaycee Jensen.
The Trojans senior handed LaPorte senior Mike Eldridge his first loss of the season, coming away with a 15-13 win for the 182-pound championship.
Eldridge (36-1) had placed sixth in the state at 170 last season. Jensen improved to 31-6 this season.
Freshman Jack Tolin (106 pounds), Mike Double (132) and Connor Smith (220) also won titles for Chesterton.
But New Prairie won the team sectional championship with 253 points, nudging past the defending-champion Trojans, who had 242. The Cougars, who had three individual winners, had won their only previous sectional title in 1994.
Among other area teams, fourth-place Knox (161 points) had three champions in Eric Dan (145 pounds), Jacob Krause (152) and Michael Sustaita (195); and the third-place host Slicers (180 points) had two in Zack Wells (120 pounds) and Landon Blackburn (heavyweight).
The top four placers in each weight class advanced to next Saturday’s Crown Point Regional.
