Oilmen turn to HC’s Wellwerts

WHITING — After being rained out on Saturday, the NWI Oilmen will play for a chance at the MCL championship tonight against the DeKalb County Liners, scheduled for a 6:10 first pitch at Oil City Stadium in Whiting.
The Oilmen took the first game of the best-of-3 series on Friday night. With the game tied at 5-5, the Oilmen scored seven runs in the ninth inning on their way to a 12-6 win.
Starting for the Oilmen tonight will be Hanover Central graduate and 2011 Post-Tribune Player of the Year Andy Wellwerts. A midseason acquisition by Northwest Indiana, Wellwerts made three appearances in the regular season, posting a 4.09 ERA. In his lone start, Wellwerts earned the win in a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Zephyrs, giving up three runs in six innings.
