Video game and movie fans have made the zombie apocalypse genre the category killer in horror and action entertainment in recent years. Coordinators of Portage’s upcoming Freaky Zombie Run look for that popularity to help make the event a lively 5K.
Early registration continues through Sept. 28 for the Oct. 13 Freaky Zombie Run, which is set to start at 4 p.m. at Imagination Glen’s Outback Trails in Portage. According to Portage Parks & Recreation Foundation members, runners will “endure mud, water, rough terrain, an army crawl, the ‘Jean Pool’, oh yes, and zombies.”
Participants are encouraged to dress in costumes. Group entries are welcome. Prizes will be awarded for the top three runners in each age category, and for largest group and best costume.
Registration forms can be found on the City of Portage website by entering “Zombie” in the search box. The early registration fee is $30, which includes a T-shirt, food and a beverage.
