Bulls-Sox Academy set to offer multiple youth camps

Area venues and clubs are offering a variety of skills-sharpening camps and sign-ups for offseason indoor sports during students’ winter break.

The Bulls-White Sox Academy’s Holiday Combo Camp is set to roll out for area youths. Kids and teens can focus on two sports at the two-day event at Omni Health and Fitness (221 U.S. 41, Schererville.)

The dual-sport camp will focus on age- and ability-appropriate skills with instruction for boys and girls backed by Chicago’s professional basketball and baseball teams. Half of each day will be spent on honing baseball or fastpitch softball skills while the other half will be devoted to working the basketball game.

Omni’s combo camp is open to youths ages 5 to 14 and will start on Dec. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $280 per athlete.

The Bulls Holiday Basketball Camp will consist of shooting, ball handling and defensive drills. This three-day camp is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14. It will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 27 to 29. The cost is $165 per athlete.

The Sox Holiday Baseball Camp is designed to make sure each athlete is ready for next season through a variety of offensive and defensive skills training. This three-day camp is open to boys ages 7 to 14. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 27 to Dec. 29. The cost is $165 per athlete.

Diamond Kings to host baseball, softball camp: Diamond Kings Baseball and Softball Training Complex (9566 N. Industrial Drive, St. John) will host a two-day Holiday Baseball and Softball Camp to focus on hitting, pitching and catching skills from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 27 to Dec. 29.

The camps are open to ages 7 to 14. Limited spots are available and the sign-up deadline is Dec. 22. For more information or to register, call 558-2273 or visitTrainDK.com.

Spot available on men’s softball team: TurtleSlo Sports Leagues in cooperation with The Dome Crown Point Family Fun Center (1301 Merrillville Road, Crown Point) has two open team slots for the Wednesday night men’s indoor softball league.

The league swings into action in January. There is a $500 fee per team. For more information, call Dave at 765-4966.

Tri-Town Pop Warner to offer spring sign-ups: Area youth football and cheer program Tri-Town Pop Warner will offer spring sign-ups for area kids and teens from 5 to 14 years old. Registration is set for Jan. 5, 12 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. at the Dyer-Schererville branch library (1001 W. US 30, Schererville.)

The organization is composed of participants from throughout the region and offers opportunities for youth of all skill levels. Tri-Town looks to offer a Challenger division in 2013.

Games will be played for four weeks on the weekends in April and May. The cost per participant is $65.
