Perhaps the only place ancient Mayan apocalyptic predictions remain a hot topic is in some quarters of the media and blogosphere.
While everyone from experts at NASA to the Vatican are discounting the doomsday forecasts, some local race organizers are playing up the hype for a special themed run.
“Local runners will hit the trail one last time for the END OF THE WORLD RUN!” posted coordinators of the Crazy Legs Race Series, which will feature a 10K race that is set to kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday at Sunset Hill Farms County Park (775 Meridian Road, Valparaiso.)
Though it’s been pointed out that the end-of-days prophecy was not properly adjusted to the Gregorian calendar in use around the world, race director, Paul Stofko said Northwest Indiana runners are stoked to get in some last-minute fitness.
“Runners love to run and if the end of the world is coming, real runners will want to get in some final miles,” Stofko said. “This will be a fun race and one last chance to win a medal before it all becomes meaningless.”
Race day registration is set for 5 p.m. at the park. Headlights or flashlights are mandatory for all runners. Awards will (or are expected to) be given to the overall male and female winners and the top three finishers in each age group.
