Founded as an outreach designed to inspire young athletes to pursue cheerleading, Young Champions of Valparaiso Cheerleading continues to build its program one routine at a time.

Head coach Dawn Condiff, who runs her program at the Boys and Girls Club of Valparaiso, said her teams, including the youngest cheerleaders, did well at a recent regional competition.

Now her focus is on hosting sign-ups and evaluations for the Champions’ next session. Those call-outs will be held at the Club at 354 W. Jefferson St. in Valparaiso on Saturday with 5 to 8 year olds meeting at 1 p.m., and 9 to 17 year olds at 2 p.m.

The children and teens will be tested and placed into different levels according to their skills. Condiff said the youngsters should wear comfortable workout clothing and gym shoes. There is a $14 fee due at the registration event.

A schedule of classes will be provided at the sign-ups. For more information, call Condiff at 256-9689, or e-mail her at Missdawncheer@hotmail.com.
