Munster to hold final Babe Ruth sign-ups

Munster boys ages 13 to 18 who are interested in playing in the Babe Ruth league will have one last opportunity to register for the 2013 season.
The Munster baseball club will host its final sign-ups from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Munster Town Hall (1005 Ridge Road), Room A.
Interested youths will be placed in either the 13- to 15-year-olds league, or the 16- to 18-year-olds league.

Course asks golfers to get passes before start of season: Golfers are advised to avoid the rush and get their season pass or free resident card before the start of the season at Valparaiso’s Forest Park Golf Course.
The golf course (1155 Sheffield Drive) will be hosting open houses from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday and 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
There will be information on the upcoming leagues and on changes to the course. Complimentary food and drink will also be available. If weather permits, there will be a putting contest.

Porter County to conduct umpire’s clinic: The Porter County Girls Softball Association will host an umpire’s clinic from noon until 4 p.m. on March 23 at Wanatah Middle School (300 School Drive.)
Open to all individuals interested in umpiring in the PCGSA for the 2013 softball season, the clinic is free. League officials encourage all umpires who worked in the PCGSA last year at Boone Grove, Kouts, LaWanna, Morgan Twp., South Central, Washington Twp. and Valparaiso to attend.

Angels to host cheerleading tryouts: The All-Star Angels cheer team will be hosting call outs April 14 for the 2013-2014 competitive season.
Evaluations at the team’s studio (679 W State Road 130 in Wheeler) include: for kids ages 8 and under, noon to 2 p.m.; 9- to 11-year-olds, 2 to 4 p.m.; 12- to 14-year-olds, 4 to 6 p.m.; 15- to 18-year-olds, 6 to 8 p.m.
Boys and girls of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. The Angels are forming mini, tiny, youth, junior and senior teams, from level 1 to level 5. Some participants will be asked to return from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 21 for tryouts for the Angels’ higher-level teams.

Lake Station Little League fund-raiser: Saturday will be a fiesta for the Lake Station Little League.
The organization will host a fiesta dinner as a fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Post 100 (1899 Central Ave., Lake Station.) The price for guests is $7, and children under 3 eat free.

Walk for Lupus starts May 18th: The 13th annual Walk for Lupus Now of Northwest Indiana is set to start at 9:30 am. on May 18 at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
Start a team, join a team or participate as an individual in either a 1- or a 3-mile walk. Area residents are encouraged to join the pacers as they help to raise funds for lupus-related research as well as statewide educational initiatives.
