VU’s ARC to host volleyball tourneys

Co-ed and women’s volleyball six-on-six tournaments will be served up Sunday and May 12 at Valparaiso University.
The tournament will be in round robin format, plus playoffs with the co-eds playing in power sixes (4/2 format). Games will begin at 9 a.m. on both dates at the Athletics-Recreation Center on the Valparaiso campus.
Entry fee is $120 per team.

Highland to hold 5K walk and run: A 5K walk and run sponsored by Regional Mental Health Center is set for May 19 at Wicker Memorial Park in Highland.
The event check-in will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk and run will kick off at 10 a.m. Registration is $30 and a limited number of printed T-shirts are available — early sign-ups are recommended.

Lakeshore radio looking for volleyball players: The Lakeshore 89.1-FM broadcasters invite region volleyball enthusiasts to enjoy their competitive annual Lakeshore Volleyball Tournament in support of the public radio station.
Play begins at 9 a.m. May 18 with the women’s A and B divisions and at 9 a.m. May 19 for co-ed A and B divisions. All games will be held at the Lincoln Center (2450 Lincoln St., Highland).
The fee is $150 per team. All players will receive a T-shirt and breakfast.

Crusaders to hold summer basketball camps: Valparaiso University’s men’s basketball team will be hosting three basketball camps this summer for youths of various ages and skill levels.
From June 24 to 27, both the Valpo Mini Camp and the Basketball School will be hosted on campus from 9 a.m. to noon. The daily camp will feature contests and games geared toward kids ages 5 to 7. The school is intended for youths 8 to 14. It will contain daily lectures and teaching sessions, fundamental stations, 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 game action and daily contests with prizes.
The Valpo Basketball Academy will be held July 29 through Aug. 2, and is for youths ages 8 to 14. The camp will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day to include teaching sessions and lectures by Crusaders players and coaches, fundamental stations, 5-on-5 games, a 3-on-3 league and daily contests with prizes.
Fees per player are $115 for the Mini Camp, $165 for the Basketball School and $295 for the Basketball Academy.

VU women’s hoops teams to host camps: The Crusaders women have also announced three basketball instructional opportunities for 2013 at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
VU’s Day Camp will run from from 9 a.m. until noon June 10-13 for girls entering third through eighth grade. The camp will teach the basic fundamental skills of basketball with a strong emphasis on dribbling, passing, and shooting.
On June 18-19, VU’s women’s team will host its annual overnight Elite Camp. This is a teaching and competition camp for incoming high school students. The camp will be run like a college practice and will be held from 2 p.m. on the June 18 until noon on June 19.
A two-day Team Shootout will be held on June 20 and 21. This camp is designed for high school varsity and junior varsity teams along with their coaches.
Fees per player are $90 for the Day Camp, $100 for the Elite Camp, and $350 to participate in one day of the Team Shootout or $500 for both days.
