The annual Post-Tribune Fantasy NASCAR contest has returned for a sixth season. Each week readers pick five drivers and points are based on the same system NASCAR uses in its standings. Lineup entries can be submitted via email (email@example.com) or phone (219-314-3797). Entries can also be texted to that cell number. No faxes, please. With your entries, please include your name, hometown and a contact number. First and second place each week will be entered into a drawing in July for tickets to the Brickyard 400.

It was pretty obvious last weekend’s race at Darlington would be a high-scoring week for the readers in our sixth annual Fantasy NASCAR contest as soon as the white flag was waved.
When the top seven are all popular drivers — unlike in every restrictor plate race — you know it will be one of those nice weeks.
The parade of popular drivers was led by Matt Kenseth, who not only got a reprieve last week on much of his previous penalty from NASCAR — he got back about half of what he was penalized on an appeal — but won his third race of the season.
That’s a good way to stick it back in the faces of NASCAR’s hierarchy, and no cheating accusations this time.
Kenseth was followed by Denny Hamlin, who looks recovered from the compression fracture that kept him out of commission for more than a month, Jeff Gordon, who is making a run another Chase, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards.
So it was no surprise that we basically had a perfect lineup from Gary Ison of Hobart. By definition, he didn’t pick the top five. He had first through fourth, and also had Busch in sixth. But a quirk of NASCAR’s point system resulted in Busch getting one more point than fifth due to leading the most laps.
Sounds like perfection to me.
Joining Ison with spots in our July drawing are three readers who were close to perfection. Bill Conley, Randy Glans and Eric Boise were tied for second with 208 points.
No real racing this week: This week’s NASCAR event is the useless, non-points All-Star race. No points means no fantasy contest, but we’ll be back next week with twice the fun. It will be our annual Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 dual race weekend in which you can enter a lineup for each race and we’ll have twice the drawing qualifiers.
So look for my lineups late next week, just don’t ask for my advice on the Indy 500 yet. I have to study, and I can’t pick Danica Patrick this year. I’m sure there’s an Andretti in the field, right?
Steve T. Gorches picks — DARLINGTON: Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon. Total points: 191
