VALPARAISO — Hoosier Hysteria took a hit in Saturday’s Post-Tribune Tennis Classic when Valparaiso University basketball players Will Bogan and Bobby Copabianco were eliminated from the men’s doubles bracket.
“We just came out here to have fun and we did that,” said Bogan. “We got a win earlier today so that was a bonus.”
And how did Bogan’s basketball talents help him on the tennis court?
“You don’t get the same jumping reactions that you do in basketball but you have the same lateral movements,” he said.
Gobbie gone from men’s open: Donn Gobbie’s run in the men’s open division came to an end Saturday. The 55-year-old, who beat 17-year-old Boris Pavlovski Friday, was defeated by Valparaiso’s Michael Woodson 6-0, 6-2.
Woodson’s next opponent will be Merrillville’s Leonard Mathews, who has yet to lose a set in two matches.
As for Pavlovski, the Crown Point native came back strong from the Friday loss to take the consolation bracket with a 9-8 win over Charles Sayger.
Crown ’em: Chesterton’s Matthew Jewison took the 14-and-under boys crown, while Schererville’s Kristi Tinsley won the 14-and-under girls title. Karoline Sroka of Munster took the girls 12-and-under championship.
