Seasons Soccer Club of the Lakes of the Four Seasons is calling on youths ages 4 to 14 to check out its program.
Registration for the spring 2014 season continues through Dec. 31 online at seasonssoccerclub.org. In-person sign-ups are set for 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 14 at the LOFS 19th Hole (1054 Sunnyslope Dr., Crown Point).
SSC offers an in-house league that includes co-ed divisions of U6, U8, and U11. The travel league includes boys and girls divisions of U8, U10, U12 and U14.
Fees are $65 for the in-house league and $95 for the travel side. Uniform fees apply for some travel players.
Participation in the sport offers a number of perks, according to club directors. Players can make new friends and promote their health while having fun.
Boys & Girls Clubs offer winter leagues: Keeping kids physically active during the often-cooped-up days of winter is the goal of local youth co-ed indoor soccer and co-ed basketball leagues.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s Valparaiso unit is rolling out the soccer opportunity for area 5- to 12-year-olds with registration for the winter soccer league ending Friday. Play begins Jan. 6 and ends on March 15.
The program focuses on skills development, good sportsmanship and fair play. Participants will have equal playing time.
Registration for the BGC offering is available online at bgcpoco.org. Parents may also register their children at the Club (354 W. Jefferson Street, Valparaiso) between 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
For more information about the soccer league and fees, as well as volunteer coaching opportunities, call Tommy John at 462-2182.
At the BGC Portage and South Haven units, located at 5895 Evergreen, Portage, and 723 Long Run Road, Valparaiso, winter hoops will be the name of the game.
Registration for the co-ed youth basketball league is available at the two facilities from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday until Dec. 13.
For more information about the basketball league and fees, as well as volunteer coaching opportunities, call Donavan Haugstad, Portage program director, at 762-4613 or Bryan Krieg, South Haven program director, at 759-2565.
Women’s roller derby tryouts: The South Shore Roller Girls’ Yvonne Lindahl has a “fantastic opportunity” to tell other female region athletes about: women’s flat track roller derby.
The fast, hard-hitting, resurgent sport has found a home in Northwest Indiana as the Roller Girls first skated into action in July. Now the 25-member team founded by Lindahl (a.k.a. Yvonna Rumble), Mallory DeGraff (Maltreatment), and Beth Garcia (Senorita Scarcia) is seeking to expand.
Tryouts for the SSRG are set for from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at R-Way Skate Centre (3600 Scottsdale St., Portage.) There will be an entry fee of $10 for skaters and $5 for spectators. Skates are available for rent at the rink.
