White Sox spring training update: Catchers Gimenez, Phegley key 14-8 win

WHITE SOX 14, RANGERS 8
FOR THE RECORD: The Sox improved their spring-training record to 2-0-2 while dropping the Rangers to 0-4.
CATCHERS’ DAY: On a day when the Sox were reunited with A.J. Pierzynski, backups Hector Gimenez and Josh Phegley stood out. Gimenez threw out Elvis Andrus trying to advance to second and went 2-for-2, driving in a run with a single. The 5-10 Phegley homered to the back of the bullpen in left field.
KEPPINGER STILL SORE: Third baseman Jeff Keppinger, who has been limited to designated hitter because of an ailing right shoulder, is taking his time getting on the field. “We thought he would be there in a few days, but they keep pushing him back,’’ manager Robin Ventura said.
MIXED RESULTS FROM KIDS:
Lefty prospect Santos Rodriguez (6-6, 190 pounds) has great stuff but needs to harness it. He gave up three hits — including a homer to Mike Olt — and two walks in facing seven hitters in a five-run inning. Zach Stewart, in his second tour with the Sox, struck out three and gave up one hit in 12/3 scoreless innings. Brian Omogrosso pitched two scoreless innings, putting a shaky outing behind him.
ON DECK: vs. Rangers, Glendale, 2:05 p.m. Prospect Simon Castro starts against the Rangers’ Alexi Ogando.
