CINCINNATI – Darwin Barney’s one-out homer in the 10th inning off Manny Parra lifted the Cubs to a 4-2 victory over the first-place Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night – snapping the Cubs’ seven-game road losing streak.

Barney’s solo shot put the Cubs ahead, and they added another run on Dave Sappelt’s RBI single two batters later -- after Julio Borbon wound up on third following a hit, throwing error and stolen base.

It was the second extra-inning game in as many nights for the teams. The Reds beat the Cubs 5-4 in 13 innings in the series opener Monday.

Despite the eventual victory, the Cubs left another starting pitcher with nothing to show for a stellar starting performance.

Carlos Villanueva pitched into the ninth inning and left with a 2-1 lead, one out and a man on second. Carlos Marmol took over to face Joey Votto – who hit a sharp grounder under the diving Barney at second base to drive in the tying run.

Votto was 1-for-15 with nine strikeouts – including a 10th inning strikeout Monday – against Marmol in his career before that hit.

The Cubs’ rotation has a 3.04 ERA, third-best in the majors. But the starters have only a 3-10 record to show for it.
