PHILADELPHIA – John Mayberry Jr. singled off Ramon Troncoso with the bases loaded, scoring Chase Utley with the winning run in the 10th inning Sunday and giving the Philadelphia Phillies a 4-3 win that sent the White Sox into the All-Star break on a losing note at Citizens Bank Park.

All three games in the weekend series went extra innings, with the Phillies winning two. The Sox forced extras Sunday on Josh Phegley’s RBI single against closer Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth. Phegley would leave the game in the bottom of the inning after taking a foul ball off his right pointer finger.

Left-hander Cole Hamels allowed two runs over eight innings and added to his productive day with a pair of hits. On a hot and dreadfully humid afternoon, Sox lefty Jose Quintana lasted six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks. Quintana, who struck out five, didn’t get much help from a Sox offense that hit into four double plays and botched up one good scoring chance on the basepaths.

The Sox go into the break with a 36-55 record.

Alejandro De Aza hit his 12th homer in the eighth inning against Hamels to cut the Phillies lead to 3-2. In the sixth, however, De Aza was doubled off second base after leading off the inning with a double, keeping in step with the Sox’ mistake-prone tendencies that marked their dreadful first half.

Adam Dunn blooped a double to left leading off the seventh and scored on Jeff Keppinger’s single that put runners on first and third, but Hamels struck out Josh Phegley and got Brent Morel to hit into a double play.

Dominic Brown doubled in a pair of runs in the first inning, and Hamels singled in a run in the fourth for the Phillies.

Jonathan Papelbon retired Keppinger and Phegley with the tying run on second in the ninth for his 21st save.

Hamels (5-11) scattered eight hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
