This preseason has been about kicking the tires on exactly what Derrick Rose and his surgically repaired left knee are comfortable doing.Coach

Tom Thibodeau confidently can put a check mark next to “outside shot’’ and “finisher.’’

Behind 32 points from Rose in a preseason-high 31 minutes Friday, the point guard not only shot 4-for-7 from beyond the three-point line, but he went back into the game with 5:50 left in the fourth quarter to help finish off the Indiana Pacers 103-98. That included 10 points from Rose in crunch time.

“Playing an extra four minutes, five minutes, I’m just trying to knock the rust off every night,’’ Rose said. “It’s coming back to me.’’

As far as it being just a preseason game? Not even close. Thibodeau and Pacers coach Frank Vogel acted as though it were a Game 7 in May, throwing their starters out there for the second half of the final quarter.

“Each game you can see [Rose’s] timing is coming around,’’ Thibodeau said. “He’s attacking, taking contact. He’s made some great passes, too. The explosion has been there from the start.’’

The victory lifted the Bulls to 5-0 in the preseason. The Pacers dropped to 0-5.

Notes

Guard Kirk Hinrich left the game in the fourth quarter with a head injury. Coach Tom Thibodeau said it might be a concussion.

Guard Jimmy Butler missed his second consecutive game. He has been recovering from a bruised left knee suffered last week in Rio. Butler said he was hoping to be back for the Monday night game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
